Size of the laptop
The laptop size is one of the first things to look for when you purchase a laptop. The size of the screen is a permanent factor. You cannot upgrade it as you do so for your RAM or ROM.
The laptop screen sizes start from 11.6 inches and can go all the way up to 17.3 inches. The standard laptop size is around 15 to 15.6 inches.
If you are looking to use your laptop as a portable device, it is better to go for the small screen sizes.

However, laptops below 15.6 inches do not support the Intel Core i7 processors or the discrete graphics cards. Therefore, the ideal screen size for a laptop should be 15.6 inches.
Quality of the Screen
Probably, you will end up staring at the laptop screen for extended hours during the day depending on your usage patterns. Therefore, it makes sense to have a screen that should be comfortable to look at and use.
Nowadays, touchscreen laptops have become the trend. However, such screens are glossy, and hence, not very suitable for your eyes. It becomes more so if you are a gaming enthusiast or a video editing professional. The ideal screen quality is the one that supports the 1920 X 1080p resolution. It is a full HD display.

The high-end laptops offer 4K resolutions as well. There are other aspects like HDR compatibility, refresh rates, IPS technology, Wide-angle viewing, and so on. We shall leave them for the high-end laptops.
As far as laptops under ₹ 50000 are concerned, we shall stick to the basic requirements.
Keyboard features and quality
The keyboard is the most frequently used part of any laptop. Long typing sessions necessitate the use of a comfortable keyboard. The 15.6-inch screen size laptops have the ideal keyboards with full-sized keys and adequate space around the arrow keys.
Also, such keyboards have perfectly-placed numbers at the side as well as at the top of the keyboard. The smaller-sized laptops compromise on this aspect.

The ideal keyboards should have quality keys that can sustain a minimum of 10 million presses. The high-end gaming laptops have raised WASD keys to enable a better gaming experience. Such laptops have backlit keyboards as well to allow you to type comfortably under low lighting conditions.
Central Processing Unit (CPU)
The CPU is a vital part of the computer. You should never compromise on the quality of the CPU as the performance of your laptop depends on it. Usually, people go for the Intel Core-based CPUs when buying a new laptop. However, you have the new AMD Ryzen CPUs as well that are gradually gaining significance.
The Intel Core processors are the best when it comes to multitasking and multimedia activities. The usual Intel Core processors are the Core i3, Core i5, and Core i7.

The entry-level notebooks work on the Core i3 processors. The costs increase as you go for powerful processors. The Core i5 processors should be ideal for your laptops.
You can also go for the Core i7 processors if you are looking for higher speeds. Usually, people go for the 7th or the 8th generation processors. The first digit denotes the generation. If you are a gaming enthusiast, you should opt for the H-processors whereas the G-processors can suffice for regular users.

Random Access Memory (RAM)
In the olden days, people used to be happy with the 4GB RAM. Today, you should not consider RAM below 8GB. The higher the configuration, the better it is for your laptop.
The processors can process more data when you have higher RAM. The ideal configuration is 8GB RAM. Power users can also go for 16GB. Nevertheless, you can upgrade the RAM anytime if you have a compatible motherboard.
Storage Capacity
The hard disks used to be the norm until a few years ago. Nowadays, they are gradually moving out of fashion. The SSDs have replaced them. The advantage with the hard disks is that they are comparatively cheaper than the SSDs.

You can easily get a 1TB HDD at the cost of a 128GB SSD. However, the disadvantages of the hard disks are many. They are bulky, slow, and produce a lot of heat. The SSD, on the other hand, is faster than the HDDs. They are also more durable than the HDDs because they do not have any moving parts.
Today, you get laptops having a combination of the HDD and the SSD. The minimum storage capacity for a laptop under ₹ 50000 should be 512GB or 1TB HDD along with a 128GB SSD.

Battery Life
Various factors are responsible for the life of the batteries. The manufacturer’s quotes are never indicative.
The factors affecting the battery life are screen resolution, brightness, the number of applications you run in the background, active connection with the internet and Bluetooth devices, and so on.
The operating system plays a significant role in determining the battery life. Statistics show that devices running on Chrome OS offer superior battery life as compared to the Windows OS.
You should look at the rating of the battery in Watt-hours (WH) or milliamp-hours (mAH). The bigger the figure, the better is the battery life.
Connectivity options
It is always better to purchase a laptop having a minimum of two to three USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI port, and a LAN cable port. Note that the USB 3.0 is ten times faster than USB 2.0. It allows for more rapid data transfer.
Today, you have the USB 3.1 that is twice as fast as the USB 3.0. The USB Type-C and Thunderbolt 3 ports are better as they offer a peak data transfer speed in the range of 40 gigabits per second.

Fingerprint readers and TPM
Security is a critical issue in today’s scenario. No one should get unauthorized access to your laptop. It is easy to guess passwords and gain access. Therefore, the higher-end laptops come with fingerprint readers.
Some of the latest models come with Trusted Platform Modules (TPM) to provide enhanced security. It can be challenging to get a laptop under ₹ 50000 with such high-security options. Alternatively, you can use strong passwords to gain access to the laptop.
Build Quality
Finally, your laptop should be robust enough to withstand shocks. It is quite common for people to drop laptops. Secondly, these laptops need protection from water and dust. Go for one that comes with military-grade protection certifications.
Having the best features in your laptop is tempting. Of course, it enhances the performance. At the same time, the price escalates as well. Therefore, you should balance your configurations to suit your usage and budget.
If you are a compulsive gamer, you would need the H-Class processors, SSD storage, and high quality graphics cards. These factors can increase the value of the computers considerably. However, if you are a standard user, you can go for the G-Class processors. They are comparatively inexpensive.

You can see that the i3 processors are more of the entry-level CPUs with a maximum of two cores in both Y and U-series.
Compared to the i3 chips, the i5 processors are better-placed with four cores and eight threads.

When compared to the i7 chips, they have weaker CPU and graphics boost clocks.
The i7 processors are the best with four cores and complete support for hyperthreading. They have the highest cache of 8MB and the most powerful graphics performance.
Graphics
The i5 and i7 CPUs come with Iris Plus Graphics that are any day better than the Intel UHD graphics.
Though this graphics performance cannot beat the high-end GPU performance, they are good enough to deliver an exciting gaming experience.
The laptops having these CPUs are suitable for gaming, but they do not qualify as a gaming laptop any day.
These processors come with graphics memory LP4XDDR4 that is more expansive than the DDR3 memory you have on today’s laptops.
Connectivity
The highlighting feature of the 10th gen processors is the excellent connectivity. Ice Lake provides native support for 802.11ax, also known as Wi-Fi 6, thereby delivering access to the highest internet speeds and data transfer.
With more Wi-Fi 6 router options becoming available, one could see the latency coming down to nearly 70%.
Intel has its own version known as Wi-Fi 6 Gig+ that doubles Wi-Fi 6’s support of 80MHz channels to 160MHz.

Besides, the Ice Lake processors come with Thunderbolt 3. The architecture allows for the inclusion of Thunderbolt 3 ports on both sides, similar to what is available in Apple MacBook Pro.
Once the port is utilised, it will result in a reduction of power consumption by nearly 300 milliwatts per port.
The best aspects of the 10th gen CPUs are as follows in a nutshell.
- They display excellent speeds despite the clock speed being lower than what is available on the 8th and 9th generation processors.
- The 10th gen chips come with high-quality graphics that can deliver an excellent gaming experience.
- The Wi-Fi 6 connectivity and provision of Thunderbolt 3 ports make it one of the most powerful CPUs in town.
